Any woman who has ever tried to find the perfect bra probably knows how many types and options of this wardrobe item there are. But despite the myriad of options, many women around the world wear the wrong bra size.

While it may seem like an ill-fitting bra isn’t a big deal, continually wearing one that’s too small or too large can seriously affect your health.

We discovered exactly how a poor-fitting bra affects women’s health and we want to share the findings with our readers. And if you want to know how to choose the perfect bra, take a look at the end of the article.

How to Fix the Most Common Bra Issues

Back, Neck, And Breast Pain

Studies say that the wrong bra size can cause a number of health problems. The most common are back, neck, and breast pain.

Poorly fitting bras do not provide good support and cause excessive pressure on the strap, which can lead to incorrect body posture and, as a result, pain in different parts of the torso.

Headaches

The extra pressure caused by a small bra can also cause headaches. If the bra does not fit well, the weight of the breasts stretches the bra straps and puts additional pressure on the shoulders, which can cause headaches and neck pain.

The practice has shown that correcting the bra size effectively solves the headache problem.

Shoulder Deformation

The aforementioned strap pressure can also cause a  “bra strap defect.” When the bra does not provide good support, the excess weight causes the bra straps to cling to the woman’s shoulders.

Studies say that prolonged wear of a small bra puts so much pressure on the soft tissue in the shoulders that it can cause deformation.

Skin Issues

Oversized bras, on the other hand, may not provide enough support, causing damage to the breast skin. Studies have shown that gravity-induced breast deformation causes the skin to stretch over the top of the breasts.

Additionally, study participants with smaller breasts suffered skin damage, as did those with large breasts.

How To Choose A Proper Fitting Bra

There is a method to measure breast size to finally find a bra that fits. To choose the perfect bra, you need to know 2 parameters: band and cup.

To find out the size of your band, measure around the rib cage, just below the breasts. Then round the result to the nearest even number.

To find your cup size, measure loosely around the widest part of your breast. Then subtract the sine measurement from the band measurement. Each inch represents a cup size, for example, 1 inch can be an A cup, 2 inches can be a B cup, etc.

Note: these calculations provide an average; Bra sizes may vary for each brand. It is important that you feel comfortable first.

Do you know what is the correct size for your bra? Have you ever experienced symptoms of an ill-fitting bra?
