If you’ve ever been to a gym, you’ve certainly seen some painful characters who don’t follow the proper gym etiquette and make you wish you stayed home.
At Creative Side, we listed the 8 rules you should follow to make the gym experience much more enjoyable for you and your fellow visitors.
What Are Things One Shouldn’t Do At The Gym?
8. Don’t Leave Equipment Sweaty
While there’s nothing wrong with sweating during exercise, wearing a workout towel is an important part of proper gym etiquette, as well as wiping sweat off the equipment after using it.
Remember that most machines are covered in leather and your sweat will not go away unless you wipe it clean.
7. Don’t Occupy Equipment Unless You’re Using It
There are people who are just hanging around on the equipment. They are texting on their phones, checking emails, taking selfies, or even taking a nap, while others wait to get on that specific machine.
If you are in the gym, you are there to exercise. Do not forget.
6. Calls And Loudspeakers
Some of the most annoying people in the gym are those who have long and loud conversations on their phones during a workout.
The other annoying types are those who like to play their music at such a high volume so high others can hear it even though their own headphones.
5. Machines Are For Everyone
Do you remember how in kindergarten we were taught that blocks were for all children? This is how you should behave in the gym.
Don’t stick to one piece of equipment at a time. Don’t spend two hours on the treadmill if you find that people are also waiting to use it.
4. Leaving Weights Everywhere
Another thing you should have learned as a child is that you shouldn’t leave your toys everywhere. The same rule applies in the gym: always put the weights back where they belong.
Leaving them on the gym floor can cause someone to fall or be injured.
3. Pressuring Gym Users
Using a machine for 60 minutes is rude, but the same is true with arms crossed in front of a person who exercises and gives them a “hurry up” look.
2. Showing Up Late
Don’t be late for class. It doesn’t matter if it’s a group fitness class or a personal training session. This can be a distraction for the instructor and other students. If you arrived late, at least make sure you interrupt the class as little as possible.
1. The Gym Locker Room Isn’t Your Personal Bathroom
There is always that one person who walks around the room naked, making others uncomfortable, and there are those who shave in the shower for hours and leave everything covered in foam and hair.
Even if you don’t mind being seen naked, remember that there are other people who are uncomfortable being around someone naked or taking off their clothes in public.
Respect others, their time, and their privacy. Remember that the gym locker room is not your personal bathroom and make sure you clean up after yourself.
