A group of researchers at the University of Nevada-Reno discovered that coffee grounds can be used as biodiesel, and quite possibly, in the near future, your car smoke will smell like a fresh cup of cappuccino.
But that first cup of coffee that most of us fill up in the morning may not be the best way to start the day. In fact, doctors believe that the best time to sip coffee is mid to late morning, between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
We usually look forward to our first cup of coffee in the morning, but the effects it can have on your body when taken on an empty stomach can be a real wake-up call.
You May Feel Sleepier
Coffee is a wake-up drink for many of us, but drinking it as soon as you wake up can have the opposite effect. Caffeine doubles the levels of stress hormones and can cause problems sleeping, resulting in tiredness.
If you start your day with a cup of cappuccino with sugar, you may feel sleepy again in no time.
This is because our body produces insulin to compensate for sugar, which causes blood glucose levels to drop, resulting in a lack of energy and anxiety.
Your Body May Lose Essential Minerals More Quickly
Drinking your regular dose of coffee early in the morning can cause you to lose many essential vitamins and minerals. It can sabotage the absorption of iron, magnesium, and B vitamins, which are vital to the nervous system.
Too much caffeine can also leach calcium from your bones, making them weak and brittle.
It May Upset Your Stomach
While your favorite drink helps you wake up in the morning, it can also make you want to use the bathroom more often. In fact, some medical experts even recommend drinking coffee as a way to prepare for certain tests.
Coffee activates our nervous system, which in turn affects the colon and can cause diarrhea. Many people also like to add milk or cream to their breakfast cup, and since most of us have trouble digesting lactose, it can also cause an upset stomach.
It May Lead To Weight Gain
While black coffee can help you burn fat, it can also disrupt your healthy sleep patterns. When you don’t get enough sleep, you tend to feel hungrier and have a greater desire for sweet snacks.
Many coffee drinks, like the popular sweetened mixes, are packed with sugar and calories and can help you put on extra pounds.
It Can Worsen Anxiety
When you wake up in the morning, your stress hormone levels are usually at their peak. Because caffeine is a stimulant, it causes a jittery effect in your body and can even trigger anxiety attacks in some people.
It Can Dry Out Your Skin
Since coffee makes you use the bathroom more often, it dehydrates your body. When you become dehydrated, it is more difficult for toxins to leave the body through the skin.
This, in turn, dries out the skin and makes it more vulnerable to various problems, such as premature wrinkles.
When do you usually have your first cup of coffee? Did you notice any of these side effects?
