We all want to look effortlessly good, stylish, and fabulous, without breaking the bank or appearing vulgar. Plus, it’s easy to get carried away with fashion and beauty trends. But it’s also important to think about what you’re wearing from a health standpoint.
Apparently, what we put into our bodies is just as important as what we feed our bodies. We want to share a list of things to avoid when shopping for your next costume upgrade.
Tight clothing
Many people prefer to wear tight clothing that fits the body. However, you should be aware of potential health effects if you think your clothing, including dresses, pants, shirts, or even undergarments, makes you feel uncomfortable.
Tight clothing can cause a condition called meralgia paresthetica, which is nerve entrapment, causing discomfort, burning, and numbness on the sides of the thighs.
Yellow clothes
Apart from the fact that yellow has become very fashionable in recent years, it also symbolizes happiness, warmth, and sunshine. Unfortunately, the yellow dye in clothing may contain a long-banned chemical. PCB11 is a form of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) that can cause skin irritation, severe acne, liver cancer, gallbladder cancer, biliary tract cancer, gastrointestinal tract cancer, and brain cancer.
There are also studies showing a possible link between the dye and breast cancer.
Skinny jeans
Skinny pants are a great style option, but they can also be unhealthy, especially for those “girl parts.” According to a study published in 2019, women who wear skinny jeans are often more likely to develop vulvodynia, a chronic condition characterized by external genital pain.
But you’re probably free if you wear skinny jeans no more than 4 times a week.
Wrinkle-free clothes
Wrinkle-free clothing is a convenient option for anyone who wants their clothes out of the dryer. However, there is always a problem: formaldehyde. The Government Accountability Office found that wrinkle-resistant clothing contains high levels of this chemical.
The levels found in the study probably won’t irritate most people. However, it can cause dermatitis in allergic individuals, which can be characterized by rashes, blisters, and scaly, dry, itchy skin.
Wearing shoes without socks
There are many trends that promote not wearing socks, but it’s best to stick to the old tradition of always wearing socks with your shoes. As a barrier between the foot and the shoe, they absorb sweat and keep feet dry.
Without them, the friction between your foot and your shoes can cause a condition called athlete’s foot, which is a bacterial inflammation of the skin caused by rubbing against wet or moist surfaces.
What are the unhealthy or toxic clothing items that surprised you the most? How do you make sure that what you’re wearing is not damaging your health?
