The first pillows that we know of date from ancient Mesopotamia. They were made of stone and only wealthy people could afford to buy them.
Unlike the old stone pillows, the ones we use today are soft and fluffy, and many people cannot sleep without hugging a large, cozy pillow.
But in reality, sleeping with a pillow may not be the best way to rest, as it can affect your body and your mood.
We understand that it can be difficult to give up your favorite pillow, but sleeping without it has many health benefits, and we did research to introduce some of them.
6. It Prevents Back Pain
Many pillows can lead to an unnatural sleeping position and the support they provide doesn’t last long. Although the pillow itself does not cause back pain, it can make many of the underlying symptoms worse.
When you sleep without a pillow, your spine can rest and your body remains in its natural position.
5. It Helps You To Deal With Neck Pain
Most pillows do not help you sleep in the correct position and can even make sleeping postures worse.
Flexing your neck in any way for a long period of time will make it uncomfortable, and pillows that are too firm or too soft can cause neck pain.
4. It Combats Headaches
If you wake up with a headache or dizziness, the pillow may be to blame. Very high pillows cause the head and neck to round forward and put more strain on the neck muscles.
This can give you a headache in the morning after getting out of bed.
3. It May Alleviate Stress
If your pillow makes you uncomfortable at night, you might end up tossing and turning while you sleep. The more sleep disorders you have, the less time your body has for many important functions that occur during sleep.
Constant sleep deprivation can affect your mood and thinking skills and will cause your body to release more stress hormones during the day.
2. It Prevents Facial Acne
Your skin will thank you for getting rid of the pillow. Normally, the face is pressed against the pillow most of the time at night.
You probably don’t wash your pillowcase every day, and it collects dirt, oil, and house dust on it. All of this can lead to premature rashes, inflammation, and wrinkles.
1. It May Be Good For Your Hair
If you wake up in the morning with dry and matted hair, you had better not use the pillow because of your hair.
When you turn around at night, your hair rubs against the pillowcase, breaking it. Pillowcases can also absorb oil from your hair, leaving it dry and brittle.
